Arthur
Johnson
, Assistant Superintendent
Transportation
The Transportation Supervisor for the Tensas Parish School System is responsible for the supervision of all buses serving the school system. As a part of these duties, it is my responsibility to maintain close contact with each bus driver and assist bus drivers as much as possible in the handling of any disciplinary problems. It is also my responsibility to work with drivers through frequent meetings where problems concerning the transportation program can be discussed. Equally important is the supervisor's responsibility to inform principals of their role in safe transportation and to assist them in developing a classroom program that will result in better understanding on the part of both pupils and parents as to their responsibility in the successful program of transportation. Finally, it is my responsibility for the promotion of safety instruction among bus drivers, an important factor in a successful pupil transportation program.
Child Welfare and Attendance
The role of the Supervisor of Child Welfare and
Attendance for the Tensas Parish School System is to provide leadership
in the establishment and maintenance of an effective school program for
the proper adjustment of the child. The SCWA accomplishes this by
working with parents, children and school personnel, and by coordinating
community services and resource concerning problems that interfere with
the satisfactory school adjustment and/or achievement of individual students.
The Louisiana statutes charge the SCWA with the responsibility of assuring
that every child is in regular attendance and the responsibility of filing
charges to enforce the Compulsory School Attendance Law when necessary.
The development of an effective school program
calls for knowledge as to which children present problems. Therefore,
the SCWA must work with the school in development of maintaining procedures
for daily identification of children with problems in the areas of absenteeism,
tardiness, class cutting, violence, health, and any other risk behavior
school-related adjustment problems. In addition to providing direct
services to individual students with adjustment and/or attendance problems,
the SCWA encourages school personnel to develop a school-wide awareness
of regular school attendance through assembly programs, homeroom guidance
activities, student awards and parent involvement in school activities.
Maintenance
The role of the Maintenance Supervisor for the Tensas Parish School System is to provide appropriate maintenance of school plant and facilities. As part of these duties, it is my responsibility to inspect buildings, maintain safe facilities and premises, arrange for corrective maintenance and maintain an inventory of material/supplies. These critical areas of responsibility are essential toward promoting the overall growth and development of the child within the learning environment.
Title IV
Title IV provides for training and implementation of programs promoting
school safety and a drug-free environment. Tensas Parish receives
approximately $10,000.00 per annum under this program. In-service
programs in the areas of drug-awareness, drug use prevention, and promotion
of school safety are provided for students, parents, and school staff with
funds allocated under this entitlement program.
